We’ll show you everything you need to know to download apps on a Fire TV Stick.

How to Download Apps on Fire TV Stick

When you first click on these apps, a screen will appear if you need to download and install them. To demonstrate, we’ll use Netflix as an example.

You can follow this procedure to download and install any app you want. We recommend creating an account for the service before downloading it on the Fire TV Stick to simplify the process.

Downloading Apps From the Fire TV App Store

The easiest way to find an app you want is to ask Alexa to “Launch [app name].” It will bring up the app detail page, and you can click on the download symbol. If you prefer to browse and see what other apps are available, navigate to, and select the apps icon on the Home screen.

Many popular apps will be displayed, but if you don’t see the one you want, navigate down to the tile that says Appstore and click on it.

Here, you can choose to browse Featured apps, Games, or All Categories. There are also bundles of apps based on different interests like specific sports, food, etc. Clicking on a bundle brings up a list of all related apps where you can click on some or select all of the apps.

How to Download and Play Games on Fire TV Stick

Here is an example of how to download a game app—not a Luna cloud game.

Navigate to the “Flappy Birds Family” app and press Select Highlight Download and press Select Wait for the game to finish downloading. Once the button changes to Run, press Select.

Follow the game’s on-screen instructions on how to use the Alexa Remote to play. The navigational trackpad buttons always work for directions.

In the case of “Flappy Birds Family,” it’s just pressing Select since it’s an entertaining one-button game.

Playing Luna Games on the Fire TV Stick

Download Luna from the Fire TV Appstore or say, “Alexa, Launch Luna. " The download page will be displayed. Connect a game controller under Settings > Controllers & Bluetooth Devices > Game Controllers, or Use the Luna app on your phone.

If you don’t have the Luna app installed on your phone, on the screen where you connect a controller, you’ll see the option of Trying Phone Controller.

When you click on it, a QR code will be displayed that takes you to download the Luna controller in the phone’s app store.

Managing Apps on Your Fire TV Stick

After a while, you can accumulate apps and use up much of the device’s storage capacity. It’s a good habit to go through and manage your installed apps occasionally.

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Apps.

Here, you will see a list of all the installed apps listed alphabetically.

Uninstall and remove an app: Highlight it in the list, then press the play/pause button to uninstall it.

Clear cache: If you want to free up memory and return the app to its first installation state, highlight it and press the rewind button.

There are tens of thousands of apps available for the Fire TV. Whether you want to install a popular app or many niche apps that appeal to you, it’s easy to install and uninstall apps for you to enjoy.
